Accelerated MASIA Degree Program

The Accelerated M.A. in Asian Studies (MASIA) Degree Program is an opportunity for current Georgetown University Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) candidates to participate in an accelerated degree program to earn both the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and the Master of Arts in Asian Studies in a five-year period.

Georgetown University BSFS juniors are eligible to apply for the program by April 1st of their junior year. Application requirements are identical to the non-accelerated MASIA degree process. Admission to the Accelerated Degree Program is very competitive. Upon invitation, finalists will be required to participate in an interview. Candidates who are not admitted to the Accelerated Degree program are welcome to apply for the non-accelerated MASIA degree program for after their 4th year of studies. Admissions decisions for the Accelerated MASIA Degree Program should be available by late April/early May.

The Accelerated MASIA Degree Program is a 36-credit program in which up to 12 credits of courses in the 4th year that are counted toward their master’s degree can (but do not have to) be counted for credit toward the BSFS degree. The Accelerated MASIA Degree Program will allow up to a maximum of 18 credits in their 4th year to count towards the master’s degree, which would then leave 18 credits in their 5th year.

Questions about the Accelerated Degree program can be directed to Robert Lyons at Robert.Lyons@georgetown.edu.
