Class of 2024
"It is a pity, yet a social reality that states prioritize their own national interests over long-term, mutual benefits. I believe, as constructivism has proposed, that there is a prospect for change, a change toward a more cooperative world, in which peace and collective interests are valued more than narrow self-interest. For me, the reproduced social relationship of enmity between the U.S. and China rests upon the lack of mutual understanding. My aim is to provide both the American and the Chinese audience with the knowledge of the unique circumstances, identities, beliefs, and interests each state possesses, to elucidate the probable motivations behind state behaviors. By doing so, I hope to not only mitigate tensions, but also highlight the tragedy of the current social reality, in which the benign desire of states to survive paradoxically leads to unsavory outcomes."
