Sam King
Class of 2025
"I graduated from NYU Shanghai with a B.A in Global China Studies, an interdisciplinary major that focuses on China’s interactions with foreign countries as well as domestic trends in politics, culture, and religion. Additionally, I minored in Social Science, primarily focusing on political science or international relations courses.
Over one summer, I interned with one of the Global China Studies professors and assisted them with research on Middle Eastern food for a course on Asian cuisine. The previous summer, I interned in China with another NYU professor, who led a group researching quantum technology. Working alongside the rest of the group, I analyzed quantum computing graphs, recorded data, and gave presentations.
During my time at NYU Shanghai, I traveled to numerous places around China, including Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Kunming, and Chengdu. Through my travel in China as well as the language classes I took, I gained proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. In order to eventually contribute towards US-China relations, I want to continue to learn about China as well as gain a stronger understanding of Asia as a whole at Georgetown, especially through the perspective that the Politics and Security concentration offers. My long term career goal is to work on American foreign policy on China as part of a government organization, and my long term academic goal is to earn a PhD, likely in international affairs."
