"Although my position as an FSO is already secured post-graduation, much of my background is in geography and East Asia, and I’d like to learn more about the history of U.S. presence and policy in Asia. In terms of overall course selection, I’m aiming for “breadth over depth,” exposing myself to unfamiliar topics of relevance in the 21st century, such as climate change and cybersecurity, and unfamiliar regions like South and Southeast Asia. While it’s difficult to imagine what my life might look like in 10 years as a mid-level officer or perhaps even out of the foreign service, I hope MASIA can help equip me with technical skills and knowledge that can be transferable to any world region."
