Alyssa Hirai
Class of 2025
"Growing up in Japan and Hawaii, I developed a natural interest in studying the Indo-Pacific—a diverse, dynamic, and complex region. My goal in the MASIA program is to build upon what I learned during my undergraduate years at Georgetown by gaining regional expertise, enhancing my proficiency in Mandarin, and refining practical skills such as analytical writing. My primary focus is to deepen my understanding of politics and security in Asia, with an emphasis on the roles played by Japan and the US in maintaining stability and promoting cooperation in the maritime domain. Upon graduation, I intend to pursue a career in Japanese media and politics, where I aspire to combine my personal, academic, and professional experiences to make meaningful contributions to international discourse and Japanese policymaking."
