Ella Daniels
Class of 2024
"I first gained an academic interest in Asia while in high school. I was enamored by the longevity of Chinese history and the dynastic system. I had very little understanding of Chinese politics or society, so that became a point of curiosity that lived in the back of my mind until I reached undergraduate. In my first semester of freshman year, I took a Chinese civilization class, and I decided that I wanted to pursue a major. Every professor I studied under in Michigan's Asian Languages and Cultures Department offered me a new perspective or insight. Georgetown is a great place to get a broad depth of knowledge because its schools are all top-notch. One sticking point for me is broadening my understanding of political economy, international trade policy, and Chinese economics specifically. I also hope to strengthen my language skills. Being able to read, write, and communicate in Chinese is crucial to my long-term goals."
