Korean Culture and Soft Power on the Global Stage: A Fireside Chat with Her Excellency Kang Kyung-wha
On April 10, 2026, the Asian Studies Program launched its “K-Salon for Korean Art, History, and
Culture” series. The K-Salon is a new initiative at Georgetown to foster conversations about the
place of Korean culture in the U.S. and on the global stage more broadly. The country’s phenomenal
rise in soft power and expanding footprint across popular culture, art, entertainment, as well as
consumer trends is a hot topic. With generous support from the Korea Foundation, the K-Salon
brings in experts to shed light on these trends.
The augural K-Salon speaker was the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to the United States, Her
Excellency Kang Kyung-wha. The conversation was moderated by Professors Victor Cha and Diana
Kim.
