Asia Media Fellows Program
Overview
With the rapid deterioration of press freedom in Asia, many seasoned and experienced journalists who have accumulated decades of knowledge of sensitive areas of Asia have lost their jobs after the closing of independent media outlets. In Fall 2023, Georgetown University is pleased to offer a fellowship for up to two seasoned journalists from Myanmar or Uighur journalists from around the world who are still committed to independent journalism to visit the US to conduct research and to engage with policymakers, the US media, NGOs and think tanks. This year’s fellowship program aims to support independent media in Asia by helping fellows to explore the future prospects of media as well as explore new directions for their careers in media.
General Information
This residential fellowship is based at Georgetown University and requires that fellows reside in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia by their date of hire. Fellows will be hosted by the Asian Studies Program in Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. This program will begin in September-October 2023 and end on February-March, 2024 for a total of 6 months.
