Title: Eleanor Hughes (MASIA ’22) Named Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program Finalist

Congratulations to M.A. in Asian Studies student Eleanor Hughes for qualifying as a finalist for the 2022 Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program! PMF is a highly selective, prestigious two-year training and development program at a United States government agency for U.S. citizens with a recent graduate degree.

Reflecting on her achievement, Eleanor notes, “It’s no secret that my cohort and I have faced a uniquely challenging time with our journey with MASIA – with one reason being that we had to be physically apart from each other and the Georgetown community writ-large to experience a one-of-a-kind graduate program. On the other hand, oftentimes from immense uncertainty comes immense opportunities, and I firmly believe that my selection as a PMF finalist among 26 other distinguished SFS Hoyas is evidence of that. And for that, I’m incredibly blessed.”

“I am very grateful to have the unrelenting support and guidance from some wonderful MASIA and SFS faculty, staff members, colleagues, alums, and classmates. Given that I spent my first year in my hometown of South Bend, IN, I also want to thank the faculty and my other friends from my alma mater, Saint Mary’s College and the University of Notre Dame for their unwavering support in advancing my professional career and care for my holistic well-being. Without all of their support, I would not have been as determined to maximize my time as a graduate student at Georgetown to the fullest extent possible.”

About the PMF

Bearing the Presidential moniker, the PMF Program is a flagship leadership development program at the entry level for advanced degree candidates. It was created more than three decades ago by Executive Order and has gone through many changes over the years. The Program attracts and selects the best candidates possible, but is really designed with a more narrow focus – developing a cadre of potential government leaders. It provides some sustenance during the first years of employment and encourages development of leadership capabilities. The PMF Program inculcates a lasting bond as well as a spirit of public service, ultimately encouraging and leading to a career in the government.
