China Speaker Series

Ambassador Clark T. Randt, Jr.
Ambassador Clark T. Randt, Jr. spoke on "U.S.-China Relations."

Framing the question of China’s rise in the international system.

“The single most important unanswered question in international relations today is the rise of China and what form this will take,” explains Victor Cha, director of Asian Studies. The China Speaker Series aims to bring into focus the numerous issues surrounding China’s rise and the challenges and opportunities these issues present to the United States and the world. The world’s top scholar on the Xinjiang region will present the findings from his latest research. Asian and American international relations theorists will debate the question of whether China’s rise is unique in the history of the Westphalian system. A top official from the Department of the Treasury will offer her views on the most recent meeting of the Strategic Economic Dialogue. The longest serving U.S. ambassador to China will reflect on his years of service. A Chinese scholar will present his research on the role of the internet in Chinese society. This is just a small sampling of the range of conversations in this series. The China Speaker Series is one element of the University’s overall outreach to China, and operates in collaboration with the China Forum and the Mortara Center for International Studies.
