Reference Areas
Georgetown's Joseph Mark Lauinger Memorial Library is the primary repository of the University's holdings on Asia in both English and Asian languages. Materials in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are catalogued in a separate card catalogue, and are under the supervision of Mr. Ding Ye. The library's Reference Department publishes guides to "Asian History" and "Asian Area Studies." The Edward Bennett Williams Law Library holds over a thousand volumes in translation on East Asian law. Undergraduates with a Georgetown identification card are welcome to use these materials.
Peter Barkanic Resource Library
The Peter Patrick Barkanic Asian Resource Area, located on the fifth floor of the Intercultural Center, maintains current affairs publications and reference materials on Asia for the use of students, faculty, and staff. The resource area honors the memory of of Peter Patrick Barkanic, who died in an airline crash in China in January 1985. A cum laude graduate in the Class of 1980 of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, Peter Barkanic was Georgetown's first graduating senior to receive a China Studies Fellowship for graduate study at National Chengchi University on Taiwan. At the time of his death, he was a Marketing representative for Beijing-Washington, Inc. The Barkanic Library contains numerous reference and periodical resources.
